Last Spring, I was in a journalism class that had a lot to do with social media. We were instructed to create a Storify article about something that was important to us. I chose to write about the women in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically Black Widow and "The Avengers."
Check out my Storify: Black Widow's Turn.

It feels like Comic Con is far away, but 10 months really isn't that long. When you think about it, us college students have midterms, finals, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring break, plus more tests, more homework and even for some of us, GRADUATION! That being said, these next ten months are going to fly by.
All we can think about is the upcoming year's movies from Marvel, DC and more. With "Deadpool," "Suicide Squad," and "Captain America: Civil War," there is PLENTY to be excited about. Keep your eyes out for exciting trailers of these new movies! For us, it seems like we have done just about everything there is to do in Coronado and Downtown San Diego. As two college kids with short attention spans and loads of energy, we got a group of friends together and chose to go mini golfing... something we have never done together! The morning started out early. Deciding to wear "golfing attire" collectively as a group, we piled into the car and hit the road on the (what felt to be) forever long drive. Stopping in downtown Del Mar, pictures were taken at the beach, and we went to the local sandwich shop. Board and Brew was packed like sardines. With a line out the door, one fan, stressed out employees chugging espressos and a crowd of sweaty people waiting for their food, we were lucky enough to swoop in and grab a table. Our sandwiches were humungous, refreshing and delicious which fed our "hangry" appetites! On full stomachs, we got back in our cars and charged down the road to do get our game on. We may have been a bit too excited about mini golf, because when we pulled up to the Pelly's Mini Golf shack to get our clubs and balls, the poor Pelly's employee was overwhelmed by our outrageous energy and enthusiasm. After making the poor guy take some rad pictures of our fabulous foursome, we started out on the "Ocean Adventure" course. Turns out that the majority of us are actually pretty good... something we didn't know about each other. We ended our day goofing off in La Jolla. Stopping for cupcakes at Sprinkles, beverages at Whole Foods, shopping and stories at a paper store, we would have to say our day was pretty successful! If you ever have the chance to go mini golfing, we would definitely recommend it. It is a cheap way to have a great time with friends, while saving money and spending time outside! 15. Bill Murray
Bill Murray was the first panelist at Comic Con in Hall H this year. Walking in while in character for his movie "Rock the Kasbah," he wowed the crowd and provided many laughs and insight to his new film directed by Barry Levinson. 14. "Game of Thrones" Surprise moderator Seth Meyers hosted the "Game of Thrones" panel in Hall H on Friday afternoon. The actors were joined by director David Nutter and executive producer Carolyn Strauss. Bringing audition reels along with a great Q&A session, Hall H was overjoyed to have them at Comic Con this year. 13. "American Horror Story"/"Scream Queens" Two Ryan Murphy shows collided in this star studded panel. Details were revealed about the upcoming season of "American Horror Story: Hotel" including the fact that there would not be any singing. From the "Scream Queens" cast, the Hall H audience roared in laughter as Jamie Lee Curtis explained that she "has been selling yogurt that makes you sh*t for six years" which is why she has never been to Comic Con. 12. Free Stuff This year, throughout the Con, massive amounts of free "swag" was given away. The major booths like Warner Brothers, Fox and Lionsgate were giving away materials over the four and a half days. A usual hit is the "Pet Yoda Ears" give-away from Petco. 11. Donut Bar Local San Diego hotspot Donut Bar created beautiful artisan donuts for this Comic-Con season. Favorites included the Conan Donut, Snoopy Donut, Despicable Me Donut and Pac Man Donut. 10. “Always Keep Fighting.” "Supernatural" Panel The amazing fanbase of TV show "Supernatural" held up candles in support of "Supernatural" star Jared Padalecki's struggle with depression. Hall H was filled with the gorgeous glow of the candles and the fans saying "always keep fighting" to Jared. It was a beautiful, moving moment for the cast and fans. 9. "Hunger Games" Surprise moderator Conan O'Brien brought out cast members Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Willow Shields. The cast talked about what it was like to say goodbye to "The Hunger Games" franchise and answered fan questions about "The Hunger Games, Mockingjay: Part 2." 8. "Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" Sequel to "The Maze Runner," the cast brought incredibly spooking footage from the new movie, and answered fan questions about the upcoming film to be released in September of this year. 7. Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy Bringing footage and answering questions about their upcoming film "Victor Frankenstein," the two actors entertained Hall H with some very funny banter and an interesting scene that left some confused and nervously laughing. To see a short clip, click here. 6. Warner Brothers Warner Brothers definitely killed it in Hall H this year. Bringing footage and cast members from upcoming movies such as "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Suicide Squad," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," and "Pan." Questions from the audience and loads of footage was of great excitement to the audience in Hall H Saturday morning. 5. "Suicide Squad" Audience members of Hall H were unsure if "Suicide Squad" was going to make an appearance at Comic Con this year. People cheered, cried and were insanely happy when Warner Brothers aired the first trailer. When the cast (minus Jared Leto) made their surprise appearance the crowd lost it. The cast seemed to be even more excited than the fans as they did a "Suicide Squad" chant, led by Will Smith. If you haven't seen the trailer for "Suicide Squad" yet, check it out here. "See you next year, Hall H!" 4. "Deadpool" There is no way to describe the energy of Hall H when Ryan Reynolds walked out onstage to introduce the first "Deadpool" trailer. The Hall H crowd loved it so much, they chanted "ONE MORE TIME!" until the trailer was played again. Ryan tweeted that we should expect to see a trailer online in a few short weeks. "Deadpool" comes out in February of 2016. 3. 20th Century Fox Selfie 20th Century Fox was a hit in Hall H this year. They brought out the casts of "X-Men Apocalypse," "Deadpool," and "Fantastic Four," plus Channing Tatum, Chris Hardwick and Stan Lee. This large group of people took an incredible selfie, and Hall H was so happy to see such an insane mix of super heroes. Our picture is from our view (behind), but you can see the actual selfie here. 2. "Star Wars" Panel This was the most epic panel of all of Comic-Con 2015. Bringing out members of the old cast and of the new cast of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Hall H was in tears as people reminisced in this incredible fandom. A creature was brought out, and behind the scenes was shown. 1. "Star Wars" Concert Director J.J. Abrams surprised Hall H with a special "Star Wars" concert played by the San Diego Symphony. Hall H audience members were given special badges, a lightsaber and a gorgeous fireworks show. Catch "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in theaters on December 18, 2015. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer as many times as you would like here.
Oh, the lovely, wonderful library. Jokes! Finals week has hit at Chico State and let me tell you: this week is not an easy one. My main frustration with Finals Week isn’t even with this week at all. It is the week that leads up to finals. Known as “Dead Week” in Chico, we are supposed to have a week of rest and review in class. This means there should be no new assignments, no new PowerPoints or lecture notes… of course this is NOT how my Dead Week went. I got a bunch of new assignments, essays, lecture notes and homework. Thanks a lot, my amazing professors. With all of these assignments, I clearly need to go to the library. My favorite spot is on the first floor, right next to the computer lab. This section of the library, called “The Grove” is for QUIET STUDY. All caps necessary because apparently “quiet study” is not something that everyone understands. Right when you walk in the room, there is a huge sign that says “Quiet Study: please silence your cell phones.” You would be shocked to find out how many people cannot comprehend that sign.
People honestly don’t seem to understand that the quiet section of the library is for silence… The best part about the library though, specifically during finals week, is that all of the kids that haven’t seen the inside of the library all semester decide that this is the week to go. They bring the entire semester’s worth of work and stake out in the library for the week. It is funny at first, but then it gets annoying to those of us that are there all of the time and actually use the space to work instead of goof off. Library etiquette: be quiet, do work. That being said, I need to study for my finals! Take your conversations elsewhere, people… maybe somewhere like, oh I don’t know, the group study floor? The one designated for you to hang out with friends and sort of do work? Good luck to those of you in the library, actually studying your booties off. I beliee in you! May the curve be ever in your favor, pals! To those of you experiencing the same struggle as myself in the QUIET SECTIONS of your school’s library, I am right there with you. Good luck. It is almost summer! Thank goodness! With love, Marlee Well hello there, readers! We are Nate and Marlee! Nearly four years ago, we met at our performing arts conservatory and became instant best friends. Over what seems like an eternity, we have shared in so many adventures... too many to count! From Sea World to Disneyland, movies, Comic Con, concerts and so much more, we have bonded over many shared interests. Now, we are both in college. Nathan is a student at Biola University in Southern California, and Marlee is a student at California State University, Chico. At opposite ends of California, we have managed to stay just as close as we were in high school. Coincidentally enough (remember I said "shared interests") we are both psychology majors. If you are in college now, or ever went to college, you'll know what we are talking about when we say there are so many struggles to college life. With exams, apartment hunting, roommates, actually getting up and going to class, there is so much on our plates. In our perfect world we wouldn't have to go to class, write papers, or spend hours in the library. But, through the hard work of it all, we manage to have a great time. That being said, thank you for checking out our blog! We are aiming to post our many summer adventures in San Diego over Summer 2015! Check back in later to see what we are up to! With love, Marlee and Nathan |
